Excel Alaska provides incredibly unique opportunities not typically afforded to students living in rural Alaska. Excel Alaska focuses on providing services to the Y-K Delta (Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta). This region lies within Southwestern Alaska and is primarily made of small rural villages. Excel teaches students how to transition from rural village life to other areas (if they so choose to). Excel focuses their attention on younger ages learning communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. As students grow older, they help them with the possibility of a transition from the village to more urban lifestyle. These skills include, but are not limited to, obtaining a driver's license, interview skills, city life skills, vocational education training (carpentry, welding, EMT training, heavy equipment operation, and physician assistant training) standardized test prep, help completing applications and entrance exams, as well as empowering young individuals to understand that they can be successful in or out of a village community.
