Of the four content area teachers we have at Aniak Jr/Sr. High School I'm the only one returning for the 2017-2018 school year. We'll continue to have the same aide, secretary, special education teacher, and a returning cook. I'll be transitioning to principal. At the Auntie Marie Nicoli Elementary School (which I'll also be principal of) we have the majority of the staff returning. We will be replacing one veteran teacher that is moving to an administrative roll in the District Office and we have the rare opportunity to add a teacher to the building due to increasing enrollment. With this in mind, during my first year as principal I'll have 60% of my K-12 content teachers new to the district. Although this may look to be a precarious situation, I'm truly looking forward to the year. This comes as an opportunity to make necessary changes within the schools.

For quite some time now I've been an avid reader, I've been very nervous to become a blogger. I think that I do have a variety of important ideas to share with the world, but am hesitant to elevate myself in importance of public documentation. Today seems appropriate as I begin to finalize my portfolio as a capstone project for my Masters in Educational Technology (MAET) combined with the preparations for my job as Principal of Aniak Schools next year. It is at this juncture that I find myself needing to stretch my wings. I've come to love Aniak, the community and the school, and consider this my home. It is with this feeling and new job title that I'm compelled to open up about my intentions as an educator. If I'm unable to be forthright with the community, students, and fellow educators about my beliefs and intentions, then how can I possibly be an educational leader? I look forward to continuing to express my ideas and concerns for Aniak Schools in this forum. Unfortunately, I don't feel that I can honestly express my excitement for the coming school year and my new roll as principal.
